چکیده

ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 Energy Standard for Buildings except Low-Rise Residential Buildings is the benchmark code of U.S. local regulations. In addition to provide a set of minimum mandatory requirements for energy-using components (prescriptive approach), the standard includes in the Appendix G a more flexible path to attest performances significantly better than code minimum (performance-based approach). With regard to this approach, a procedure to establish the proposed building performance by quantifying the energy savings above an annual baseline energy consumption is defined as Performance Rating Method and used within the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Protocol. This paper applies the U.S. performance-based approach to the global energy efficiency goal within the prescriptive-oriented Italian framework. In particular, the Performance Rating Method – partially customized to the Italian context by GBC Italia and in compliance with LEED Italia requirements – has been applied to an Italian case study in order to highlight strengths and weaknesses correlated to a steady adoption of the performance approach in Italian energy policies. The proposed building performance of the case study has been evaluated throughout a dynamic simulation analysis carried out by means of the EnergyPlus code. © 2014 The Authors. Feasibility of integrating building information modeling and LEED certification process

This study investigated the implementation of building information modeling (BIM) technology to facilitate the green building certification process under the leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) rating system, specifically the LEED for New Construction 2009 system (LEEDNC 2009). The goal of this research is to propose an integration model of the LEED rating system and BIM techno...

Evaluation and Comparison of LEED, BREEAM, and the 19th issue of National Building Regulations of Iran (NBRI) in Perspective of Sustainability by (MCDM) TOPSIS Method

In this research, the features of LEED, BREEAM, and NBRI also, their principles, are reviewed, evaluated, and compared from the aspects of the sustainability. The compliance items of standards with the principles of sustainability determine that their goals are well matched. By comparing the different and shared principles, it discovered how each standard has succeeded from the aspect of the su...

Net-Zero Energy Building Enhancement for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum Educational Facility

In the United States, university buildings use 17% of total non-residential building energy per year. According to the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), the average lifecycle of a building in a university is 42 years with an EUI (energy use intensity) of 23 kWh/m/y. Current building and energy codes limit the EUI to 16 kWh/m/y for new school buildings; this benchmark can vary dependi...

Proposing the simplified model for choosing the method of retrofitting in existing structures against fire risk

Background and objective: According to the necessities in the part 3 of National Building Regulations, design and construction of buildings should be in a way that the structures, according to the type of use, the size and the number of floors, resist long enough to fire, and prevent from destruction of buildings or from spread of fire to adjacent spaces or buildings. For this purpose, it is ne...
